Low Sheen Acrylic for Interior and Exterior Murals

Viponds Low Sheen Acrylic is a premium water based product that can be used to paint both interior and exterior murals. Bright vibrant reds, yellows and oranges can be achieved that have superior paint coverage. All of the Viponds Low Sheen Acrylic colours can be intermixed to make other colours. Viponds can also tint the product using our extensive colour range to match colours from existing coatings or match samples such as RAL 1028 or Pantone 102C and Australian Standard Y14 Golden Yellow.

Expert tips:

  • When painting a mural with bright colours a uniform white background will enhance the coverage of the paint along with brightness of the paint.
  • If a top coat of Viponds Graffiti Coat is to be applied then we recommend using Viponds Graffiti Coat Primer before the Low Sheen Acrylic. Alternately use Viponds Ecoshield with Viponds Graffiti Coat - depending on the substrate you may not need a primer coat with this combination.
  • Viponds Low Sheen Acrylic can be used on exteriors for sign writing.
  • Viponds Low Sheen Acrylic is suitable for timber and concrete tilt panels.

FAQs

How does Viponds Low Sheen Acrylic mural paint achieve bright and vibrant colours for murals?

Viponds Low Sheen Acrylic is an excellent choice for exterior murals because its lightfast pigments resist fading under prolonged sunlight exposure. These pigments receive high ratings for their ability to withstand UV light, ideal for maintaining the vividness of mural artworks that are often subjected to varying environmental conditions. The paint's formulation also meets rigorous Australian standards, guaranteeing the quality and durability of the pigments.

What surface preparation is required for Viponds' Low Sheen Acrylic mural paint?

Preparing the surface correctly is crucial for achieving the best results with Viponds' Low Sheen Acrylic paint for murals. Here's how to get each surface ready:

  • Timber — Priming is generally recommended to enhance the vibrancy of bright colours and improve coverage, although it is not always necessary unless the timber contains tannins. In cases where tannins are present, use a tannin-resistant wood primer. Prior to painting, sand the bare timber, fill any holes, and ensure it is free from dust.
  • Galvanised iron and aluminium — Clean off oil and grease with a prep wash, then apply an acrylic metal primer or etch primer.
  • Iron and steel — First, remove oil, grease and rust. Treat any remaining corrosion with a rust converter before applying a metal primer.
  • Brick and masonry — Brush off loose and powdery materials with a stiff brush, then wash down the surface. No primer is necessary, but use an undercoat depending on the top coat colour.
  • Previously painted surfaces — Remove all loose and flaking paint, sand glossy areas and wash with sugar soap. Spot prime any metal with the appropriate primer. Lastly, conduct an adhesion test on the existing coating before painting to ensure the best results.

Are there any specific maintenance requirements for mural surfaces painted with Viponds Low Sheen Acrylic?

Maintaining mural surfaces painted with Viponds Low Sheen Acrylic involves a few straightforward steps to ensure the longevity and vibrancy of the artwork:

  • Regular surface cleaning with a soft brush or damp cloth is recommended to prevent dirt and dust accumulation.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive tools.
  • Protect murals from physical damage by positioning them away from high-traffic areas or using protective barriers.
  • In regions with strong sunlight, consider additional UV protective measures such as overcoats or UV filtering panels to minimise fading and maintain the vibrancy of the paint's colours.
