Canvas Awning Paint

Viponds Tautflex DIY is a perfect way to restore old canvas awnings that are in reasonable condition. It’s ideal to paint over old canvas blinds that look out dated and to modernise to a colour that suits the rest of the building. It can be tinted to match any paint colour. Some customers have matched it to their Colorbond gutters in colours such as Colorbond Woodland Grey. Other ideas are to match it up to the same colour as the window frame or Colorbond fence often in colours like Colorbond Paperbark.

When rejuvenating old canvas awning that have stripes through them Viponds Canvas Block Out Undercoat is required if wanting to paint a white or light grey shade on top. If dark colours such a Colorbond Ironstone or Colorbond Monument are your final colours a canvas blockout undercoat is not required. An extra coat of the same colour may be required, however, if the stripes can be seen after applying three thin coats.

FAQs

What is Viponds Tautflex DIY, and what is its primary purpose?

Viponds Tautflex DIY is a specially-formulated canvas awning paint. It serves a dual purpose — providing a vibrant colour refresh and adding a protective layer that enhances the fabric's longevity. Ideal for both residential and commercial use, Tautflex DIY is designed to adhere to canvas and other flexible surfaces, creating a durable coat that resists cracking and peeling.

How long does Viponds Tautflex DIY take to dry completely?

Under normal conditions of 16°C and low humidity, Viponds Tautflex DIY is touch dry within 20 minutes and is ready for a recoat in 2 hours. Please note that colours containing higher tint levels may have slightly longer drying and curing times. For optimal durability on awnings and blinds, allow at least 24 hours of curing time before rolling them up.

Besides canvas awnings, is the paint suitable for other surfaces?

Viponds Tautflex DIY is a versatile paint designed for various flexible surfaces. This water-based formula adheres well to materials like vinyl, leather, polyester and cotton.

What is the recommended way to paint a canvas awning?

For optimal application of Viponds Tautflex DIY, the first coat should be applied sparingly to seal the surface, ensuring the paint remains on top of the canvas and does not saturate it. The best tool for this is a 10mm nap roller, used without excessive paint and in a crisscross pattern.

Subsequent layers can be applied more liberally to achieve the desired opacity. Although a brush can be used, it should not press the paint into the surface but lightly over it in the same crisscross pattern to avoid making the canvas stiff and difficult to handle.
